1. In the NFL’s inaugural season in 1920, only 10 teams participated.

False; Although the inaugural NFL season did occur in 1920, there were 14 teams participating, not 10.

False; Year – 1939. The first American football game that was televised was between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1939.


4. The first college football game was played in 1869.

Fact; The two teams involved in that game were Rutgers and New Jersey, and Rutgers won the game.


5. The Los Angeles Rams made history by becoming the first NFL team to win the Super Bowl four times. 

False; The Pittsburgh Steelers, not the Los Angeles Rams, made history by becoming the first NFL team to win the Super Bowl four times.


6. The APFA, established in 1920, was later rebranded as the NFL in 1922.

Fact; The American Professional Football Association (AFPA), was renamed as the NFL in 1922.


7. In 1946, Kenny Washington became the first African-American player to join the NFL in the modern era.

Fact;  Kenny Washington was signed by the Los Angeles Rams during the 1946 season, while Woody Strode, who was not only a football player but also an actor, became the second African American player to be signed by the Rams.


8. In 2002, the Miami Dolphins became the youngest team to join the NFL. 

False; The Houston Texans; The Miami Dolphins can be considered one of the older NFL teams, having entered the league in 1970. The Houston Texans, on the other hand, joined the NFL in 2002.


9. Helmets have always been mandatory safety equipment in American football since the inception of the NFL. 

–  False; Many safety rules for players were not in place since the league’s inception. Regulations concerning safety, such as the mandatory use of helmets and others, were implemented much later after the league began. Helmets became mandatory sport gear in the NFL in 1943, nearly two decades after its inception.


10. In the 2021 Super Bowl, it was the first time a home team played and won. The team was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fact; In the history of the NFL, a home team had never won the Super Bowl. Finally, in 2021, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers managed to claim this record for themselves.


11. The first televised Super Bowl and halftime show, which occurred in 1967, was known as the AFL-NFL Championship.

Fact; The name “Super Bowl” began to be prominently used for the NFL championship from 1969. Starting with the third annual championship, the name “Super Bowl” began to gain popularity. Television broadcasting also played a role in its rise.


 12. Jay Berwanger was the first player to be drafted in the NFL in 1936 by the Baltimore Ravens.

False; While it’s true that Jay Berwanger was indeed the first player drafted to the NFL, it was not the Baltimore Ravens who drafted him, but the Philadelphia Eagles in 1936.


13. NFL fans witnessed the first-ever Super Bowl game decided by a one-point margin in 1992, during Super Bowl XXV.

False; Super Bowl XXV took place in 1991, not 1992. That was a trick question aimed at testing your memory. Super Bowl XXV will always be remembered as one of the finest games in NFL history. It was played between the New York Giants and the Buffalo Bills.


14. The Allegheny Athletic Association, founded in 1930, was the first sports club to field the inaugural professional football team.

False; The Allegheny Athletic Association, founded in 1890, was the first sports club to field the inaugural professional football team.


15. Walter Camp, the Father of American football, was the first to propose a change in team size from 11 to 15 players. This proposal was initially rejected but was later approved in 1880.

False; If you have carefully read the above statement, you must have answered the question as false. If not, then read it again. Walter Camp, who was considered one of the finest athletes of his time, excelled in multiple sports, and football was one of them.

In order to make the game of football strategically more challenging, he proposed the idea of reducing the size of the team from 15 to 11. The idea didn’t sit well with football authorities during that time, but eventually, his idea got approval, and the size of the team was reduced to 11.
